Psalm 34
Part 2 of 4
4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.
5 Those who look to him are radiant;
their faces are never covered with shame.
6 This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
he saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.
8 Taste and see that the Lord is good;
blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.
Previously, we saw that David’s instruction in the first three verses was “PRAISE THE LORD!”.
Here, David is telling us Look for the Lord.
David gives three witnesses of the Lord’s care for those who are His:
1. He saves (delivers) (vv4-8)
2. He protects (v7)
3. He satisfies (v8)
“Taste and see…”
· “Taste” is the Hebrew word ((ta-am’) (taw-am’).
o It means way more than a sip or nibble. It means to perceive with all our senses. We are to “bask” in Who and What our Lord is.
· “See” is the Hebrew word ha*r* (ra-ah’) (raw-aw’).
o It means to see by way of experience. It’s similar to us saying “You gotta see this!” We know what it is but we’re telling someone else based our experience.
Likewise, we should KNOW that our God is good because He has taken us through countless valleys and dance with us on countless mountains. Truly, we are “blessed” by taking “refuge in Him”.
