Who Do We Worship?
Part 2 of 3
Text: Matthew 15:6b-9
Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. 7You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:
8” ‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
9They worship me in vain;
their teachings are but rules taught by men.’[b]“
- Tradition is not the object of our worship: Matthew 15:6b-9 (Quotation from Isaiah 29:13)
- Be very careful when you make “the way we’ve done it” part of a sentence about worship.
- Worship is meeting WITH God, not a meeting ABOUT God.
“If it is true that we are priests and mediators of God’s encounter with His people, then we must be intentional about everything we do as worship leaders” –Gary M. Burge
