Love:
there are fewer words more overused and misunderstood in English language.  I love my dog.  I love my car.  I love football.  I love my wife.  I love Mexican food.  I love my daughter.  I love cold weather.  I love my son.  Love…countless songs, poems, and prose have
been inspired by this concept.

Yet,
do we really know the kind of love we are to have as Christians?  Paul wrote,
“But
the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law”
 (Galatians
5:22–23).
It is part of the
collective fruit growing in our lives (as Christians), but what is this kind of
love?

We
read passages teaching us
“And now these three
remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love”
(1 Corinthians 13:13).  It is
the greatest but what is it?

It’s
often taught that the first three of the nine components of the fruit of the
spirit are concerning our spiritual direction.
They describe our spiritual outlook.
To connect this to where we are today, it means our outlook is one of
love.  We are told,
“And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them
all together in perfect unity”
(Colossians 3:14).  How we love tells the world our spiritual
outlook.  More accurately: the overflow
of our spiritual attitude of love shows the world who we are and to Whom we
belong.

Jesus
walked in an attitude of love.  He
“gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice
to God”

(Ephesians 5:2) because of His
love.  It was the love of Christ reaching
down for us even before we cared about Him.
“…We were still sinners” when “Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).  We weren’t loving when He showed us the
ultimate love.  No.  He loved us first.  And He loves us best.  And He tells us to love like Him.

Jesus
had a lot to say about love.  I would guess
He didn’t want us making it up as we went along.  One of my favorite passages from John is John 15:9-13.  Jesus tells the disciples at the Last Supper:

“As the Father
has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my
commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands
and remain in his love.  I have told you this so that my joy
may be in you and that your joy may be complete.  My command is this: Love each other as I
have loved you.   Greater love has no one than this: to lay down
one’s life for one’s friends.

Jesus
has shown us what love looks like.  We
are called to love like Him—to live like that!
We are called and challenged to walk with the spiritual outlook of love
towards those inside and outside the family of faith.

Verse
1

Sometimes I think

What will people say of
me

When I’m only just a
memory

When I’m home where my
soul belongs

Was I love

When no one else would
show up

Was I Jesus to the least
of us

Was my worship more than
just a song

Verse
2

Am I proof

That You are who You say
You are

That grace can really
change a heart

Do I live like Your love
is true

People pass

And even if they don’t
know my name

Is there evidence that
I’ve been changed

When they see me do they
see You

Bridge

I wanna show the world
the love You gave for me

I’m longing for the
world to know

The glory of the King

Chorus

I wanna live like that

And give it all I have

So that everything I say
and do

Points to You

If love is who I am

Then this is where I’ll
stand

Recklessly abandoned

Never holding back

I wanna live like that

I wanna live like that

“Live
Like That”
