Psalm 36

Part 3 of 3

Verses 10-12

10 Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart.

11 May the foot of the proud not come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away.

12 See how the evildoers lie fallen — thrown down, not able to rise!

David’s concludes this Psalm with a prayer for others who are in the Lord (v 10) and for himself to be protected from evil doers (v 11). He so trusts the Lord, he concludes verse 12 with the almost prophetic utterance:

12 See how the evildoers lie fallen — thrown down, not able to rise!

So what’s the overall point of this Psalm?

7 How priceless is your unfailing love!

Both high and low among men

find refuge in the shadow of your wings.

It’s not the good deeds of the righteous that makes us different. Our good deeds are the natural result of our right relationship with God (see the book of James regarding our faith and our works!)

What separates us from those who practice evil is the fact that we run to for refuge in the shadow of the Lord’s wings.

Indeed, Lord:

10 Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart.
