1To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul;
2 in you I trust, O my God.
Do not let me be put to shame,
nor let my enemies triumph over me.
3 No one whose hope is in you
will ever be put to shame,
but they will be put to shame
who are treacherous without excuse.
4 Show me your ways, O Lord,
teach me your paths;
5 guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.
6 Remember, O Lord, your great mercy and love,
for they are from of old.
7 Remember not the sins of my youth
and my rebellious ways;
according to your love remember me,
for you are good, O Lord.
Our help comes from the Lord alone! (Verses 1-7)
· All around Israel were people and nations who put their trust in things that were manufactured. They may have been idols or may have been weapons of war…either way, they trusted in these things.
· For us, we must remember not to trust in things that will pass away. What will pass away? (everything and everyone!)
o The recent market has shown us that not even the great economy of the United States is safe from instability.
o But the LORD: stable!
o Our help comes only from Him!
· Even when we sin, He will forgive us! He is faithful. See the prayer of David in verse 7.
o For us, the answer is summed up in 1 John 1:9-10:
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.
