Psalm 19, NIV

For the director of music. A psalm of David.

19 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

2 Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.

3 There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard.

4 Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun,

5 which is like a bridegroom coming forth fro
m his pavilion, like a champion rejoicing to run his course.

6 It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is hidden from its heat.

The Lord is the Creator (Verses 1-6)

World famous biologist Edward O. Wilson claims there may be as many as 1.6 million species of fungi in the world today, 10,000 species of ants, 300,000 species of flowering plants, between 4,000 and 5,000 species of mammals, and approximately 10,000 species of birds.

But these large numbers pale into insignificance when you start examining the sky. Think about it, you are looking into the past when you look up beca
use of the time it takes for the light from those stars to reach our little eyes on our speck of a planet. David obviously didn’t know the scientific data we take for granted about the speed of light, and yet when he looked up, he was overwhelmed by the glory of the Lord.

We know God created the universe for several reasons:

1. There is order. Order demonstrates design.

2. There is purpose. There are laws which govern what objects do. The laws of physics were, quite literally, designed by God to function this way.

3. God said he did…and I guess that settles it.
