If you’ve tried to do anything online recently, you’ve probably noticed something: the world feels loud.

Christmas shopping, checking the news, or even just scrolling a social feed, there’s so much noise.  Not just audible noise, but emotional noise.

A few weeks ago, I posted a short video. It tells people our Christmas light show is at a new location (because we moved).  Someone I don’t know got on the feed and lectured about environmental abuse. They talked about the electricity waste caused by Christmas decorations.  Seriously, their post is as long to read as the 30-second video is to watch.

But that’s how it is today.  Everyone has an opinion.  Everyone is stressed.  Everyone wants you to know it.  Everywhere you look, there’s a headline demanding your outrage, your worry, and your reaction.

Layered on top of that is December itself.  It’s a month known for joy, yet, somehow, it is also known for exhaustion.  You can practically feel the pressure humming in the air: Do more. Buy more. Be everywhere. Make everything magical.

Peace?
Yeah… peace feels like a quaint idea from a Great American Family Channel movie.  Nice, but not real.

Yet into all that noise, Jesus whispers a sentence that cuts through the static.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.”

John 14:27, NIV

“My peace I give you.”

Not “tips for better relaxation.”
Not “a calmer schedule.”
Not “good vibes.”
His peace.

Jesus speaks these words on the eve of His arrest.  Everything was about to fall apart.  The disciples will face fear, confusion, and danger they never imagined.  Jesus knows this.  He doesn’t pretend the chaos isn’t coming.

But He gives them something stronger than calm circumstances:
A peace rooted in His presence.
A peace the world cannot give.
A peace the world cannot take.

Jesus isn’t offering escape from trouble; He’s offering steadiness in it.

If we’re honest, most of us chase peace the same way we chase Wi-Fi signals: wandering around hoping to find a spot where everything magically connects.

“If I can just get through this week…”
“If everyone in the family can just get along…”
“If I can just get the house quiet for 10 minutes…”

But Advent reminds us: peace isn’t a place you arrive at; it’s a Person who arrives to you.

Jesus offers a peace that doesn’t depend on the world calming down.  It depends on Him showing up.

This week, carve out intentional moments.  Not to escape life, but to meet with the One who brings peace into it.

  • When you light the Advent candle of peace, pause and breathe in the promise: Jesus has already spoken peace over my life.
  • When your mind starts racing, pray: “Lord, give me Your peace, not the world’s version.”
  • When your schedule feels unmanageable, ask Him: “What would it look like to walk in peace today instead of rushing through it?”

Advent is the season reminding us that Jesus didn’t wait for the world to quiet down before He came.  He entered the chaos with peace in His hands.

And He still does.

This second Sunday of Advent, may your heart echo Jesus’ words: “Not as the world gives.”

Because the world gives temporary calm.
But Jesus gives unshakable peace.

And that kind of peace doesn’t just decorate a season. It transforms the soul.
